Unless, of course, you just got dumped.
Everybody knows it's the most wonderful time of the year. But for every starry-eyed couple locking mittens as they skate across the ice at Rockefeller Center, there's someone trying to tearlessly tell Aunt Edna that the handsome honey she was supposed to spend Thanksgiving with may be off carving some other girl's turkey.
When Julian Kesner, 25, a PR rep from Manhattan, broke things off this month, he left his ex in the lurch. 'It's the worst possible time,' he admits. 'Her family lives in another state and we had Thanksgiving in Brooklyn. And one of the biggest things about the holidays is not being alone. If you are the instigator of someone being alone, or having to drastically alter her plans, that's not a very good feeling.' "

'Tis the season for loving, giving, and generosity. But what if you're showing up everywhere solo this year? No worries. You won't be the only one. Some of us prefer being single, others wait to get hooked up, and still other people will be newly divorced or broken-up this holiday season.

Here are a few tips for having fun without feeling lonely. Add your own in the comments section below.

Choose your parties. Random party-hopping this time of year can be a real downer. Pick and choose the ones you know you'll have fun at.


Look good. Buy yourself a new blouse or shirt when you're out shopping for others. Get a great haircut or try out a new cologne.
